Rumtek Monastery

 

Rumtek Monastery, also called the Dharma Chakra Centre, is situated around 23 kms from Gangtok. This is amongst the beautiful monuments in Sikkim that were founded by the Wangchuk Dorje, 9th Karmapa Lama in the 16th century. It is a quiet getaway that houses a monastery for the monks and includes a beautiful shrine temple.

It is amongst the largest monastery in Sikkim which is an almost replica of the original monastery in Tsurphu inTibet. Rumtek Monastery is also a world renowned center for Kagyu teachings, it consists of some of the rarest and the oldest Buddhist religious art objects found in the world.
